The TRIO Upward Bound (UB) and Student Support Services (SSS) Programs are two of eight TRIO Programs that are federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The programs seek to increase the rate of students who complete secondary school and enroll in and graduate from a postsecondary institution. The Upward Bound Program at UIC serves 113 students from target high schools. Its participants are from low-income families and/or first generation (neither parent has obtained a bachelor’s degree) students. The Student Support Services Program serves 160 students who are enrolled at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Over 1300 of our Student Support Services participants have graduated with bachelor degrees from UIC. The program serves students from low-income families and/or students who are first generation (neither parent has obtained a bachelor’s degree) and students with disabilities.
